The whirlwind of Christmas and New Year is finally over and everyone is back at work recharging their bank accounts ready for the blow of next Christmas. I had a rather enjoyable festive season with HUGE amounts of alcohol and a new addition to my life known as the iPhone. I will get onto that one later.
I have been spending every waken moment sitting at my iMac tapping away in iWork for the assignments that I have due in for the 10th of January. One of them I hope to have finished tomorrow leaving 5 days to polish the other 2 assignments. Let the turd polishing commence!
I have found a few nice programs to add to 10.5 over the festive season one being handbreak and the other being visualhub both do a very good job at preparing videos for my iPhone.
I will stop delaying your suspense and now talk about the new love of my life. I took a trip to the O2 shop on Christmas eve (every mans favorite shopping time) due to being sick of the pathetic service from 3 mobile and was presented with a sexy little black box with shiny text and apple logo after getting it home I plugged it into the trusty iMac with the included dock and itunes spun into action asking me for details etc...
The registration was complete in less than 5 minutes and I was free to play with my new toy to my hearts content.
This item never fails to impress. I love everything about it. Yes they are better phones on the market technically but all I will say is "it's not an iphone!"and that is all you will be thinking as you play with your N95. Correction you will be playing with your N95 with it plugged into the wall as the battery will always be flat!
Apple = Alien Technology
Enough of my Apple is amazing speech, back to the 3 Mobile bashing! My Sony Ericsson W850i (A phone with an i at the end of the name obviously isn't as good as a phone with an i at the beginning of the name) broke on the Custard Group Christmas party. The screen just packed up and the phone just became an expensive underpowered torch.
I phone 3 mobile up and after speaking to someone who I can barely communicate with I am told to take it to Carphone Warehouse who then send me to the 3 store and I then get send again back to the Carphone Warehouse. After all this I then told I am not allowed another phone whilst mine is being repaired and that it is going to take about 3 weeks. On top of this every call I have made on my 3 Mobile cuts off after 10-20 minutes. I have complained twice and their solution was for me to find another customer with the same problem. No one I know is on 3 in my area and now I know why. My calls would drop from full signal to no signal during my calls without me moving, this is a poor excuse of a network.
Basically I am going to buy myself out my contract and work on getting a huge reduction because of the shoddy service.
I have been on my iPhone to people for well over a hour with crystal clear sound and no cut off so far they have a customer for life if this service continues.
So to conclude
Happy New Year
These past few months have been anything but quiet. With work mounting, university deadlines getting closer and social activities exploding I am struggling to find time to fit everything in.
The easy option would be to drop one of them but thats not an option and if it was any of them university would be the first to go if it was up to me. This year seems to be filled with pointless lectures, unorganized assignments and students having to use gut instinct in their assignment rather than understanding what they are supposed to be doing.
I am currently doing 4 units (2 of them are double units) but 2 of them seem completely pointless. Professional management teaching old business practices that are no longer used from my experience and logically seem to be a complete waste of time.
I prefer to study something called common sense with a dose of life experience.
Time management is something I wouldn’t mind learning at the moment as I have “so much to do and so little time to do it in”. If that isn’t an option I would also take a time machine if one is available to rent for a few month. Wheres Dr Who and his Tardis when you need him/it.
I finally have my Spyder3Elite (screen calibrator). I am very impressed with the results. Non of the standard profiles are even close to the levels on the calibrator. The shadows are defined and the detail in photos is greater than anything I could see before.
I am now back in Nottingham for Christmas. Most of which will be spent sitting at this very desk typing away and researching for my final project. Luckily its a less stressful environment than my university accommodation (only 1 woman rather than 4).
Christmas is closing in fast and bank account is taking on attacks from all directions. This holiday is too commercial now. I remember the days when it was all about family, food and alcohol. Now it’s all about presents, cards and alcohol. Everyone breaks themselves buying gifts and pieces of paper with pretty colours for everyone they know so they don’t feel bad.
I’m thinking of moving my Christmas to half way through January, that way for the same amount of money I can get the people I want to buy gifts for twice the amount I would be able to before Christmas. Christmas has lost it’s magic this year for me it’s purely about being with the people I care about... and the food.
I am finally back up in Hull and it's like an early Christmas for me. The minute i got in it was all systems go to get the iMac out the box and running as quick as possible. With a little help from my friends (it was a bit of a task to get it safely out the extremely well packaged box) I got it out and setup. I have to say it didn't fail to amaze. The design is amazing, screen quality is better than anything I've ever seen. Leopard was installed before the night was over and I am yet to have a problem.

So there it is in all it's glory. I am currently installing all the software I need to get me through my degree and develop. The Spyder3Elite (screen calibrator) is hopefully going to be shipped on the 16th of this month. I have also ordered a Western Digital MyBook PRO 500GB (firewire 800) to run with Time Machine.
