Networking woes after a day of go-karting

My 3rd BTHomeHub has arrived and is now all plugged in and setup. I proceeded to spend most of Thursday night on the phone to BT technical support whilst some poorly trained IT guy clicked things on my laptop via a remote desktop system they have implemented.

He spent the first 20 minutes opening command prompt and running ipconfig /release and /renew. After this he looked at the amount of wireless networks in the area and said he is going to get rid of them from my list. I know this is not possible because I actually understand how windows works and have been using it since 3.1 was around. Even logic tells you that removing the networks from the detected networks list isn't possible unless you have a large amount of led to put into the walls. Or there is the cheaper option of turning the wireless off and not having a wireless connection at all.

The next 20/30 minutes consisted of clicking random settings in the BTHomeHub control panel including turning the SSID off, changing the channel (the most logical steps he took). Finally after a hour or so of playing I got back my wireless. But after a few hours both the wireless and ethernet seemed incapable of holding an ip address for more than a few minuites. Still even after reinstalling the drivers the same problem occurs.

Wether this is a faulty dhcp on the router or a software/hardware issue with the router I do not know and more research will need to be done.

On another note I am currently in a lot of pain after going go-karting with nzime yesterday. We had 4 15min sessions with a 2-5 minute break in between. I came 4/6 over all which isn't bad considering it was my 3rd time karting.

A long day at work.

This morning was one of them mornings when the snooze button on the alarm (well iPhone) gets used more than it should. For some reason I was pretty tired all day which may have been down to not having my morning sausage and egg cob fix.

Most of the day I have been working on the HTML templates for a few of the clients. Churning out some of my best HTML/CSS code to date. Tomorrow I am going to an early meeting to look into integration of the new Golddigga store website into Golddiggas current stock management system to make the website as functional and dynamic as possible. Hopefully the process won't be too difficult to code...

In the very near future I am going to be looking into parsing XML from youtube user feeds to display on a site. As video is becoming more a more common medium on the internet more and more clients are wanting to integrate video into their sites. youtube is one of many methods also providing a second platform to be found on.

Anyway I have been looking at a screen for the past 9 hours so I am going to call it a day and cut it here.

BSc (Hons) Web Technology year 3 semester B

This week was the first day of the rest of my life. On Tuesday I had my first lecture of my final semester at Lincoln university. Getting back into the University timetable from the personal timetable I had been keeping myself to (wakeup somewhere around dinner) is motivating me to get myself into a working setup.

On Wednesday I went to some mythical place known as a library. It was a strange experience I must say... In this magical place are items that are apparently known as books made out of something called paper. I was intrigued by this substance known as paper and also the devices created by it known as books so I used the computer to find some books that may help me with my dissertation. A while later I was in possession of some of the books i required and on my way home.

These book things are a lot heavier than PDF's on a memory stick.

This week has also bought some positives to light with my degree. Two of the units will allow me and Matt to start out building a web application we have been planning to pin every pub/club/bar in the UK and eventually the world via the wonders of user generated content. The details are currently confidential though.

On the down side this week has shown me how much work I actually have to do over the next few months with the Golddigga store to finish building, a dissertation to write, 2 content management systems to implement into sites for clients and another 2 web builds. Oh and another 2 assignments to do one including the web application I mentioned.

Looks like these next few months are going to put my MP3 collection to it's limits.
